การติดตามจับกุมและเข้าตรวจค้นบ้านนายชัยรัชต์ดังกล่าว สืบเนื่องจากเจ้าหน้าที่ตำรวจได้จับกุมนายจิรพันธ์ หรือมด สุขปรีดา อายุ 19 ปี พร้อมของกลางยาบ้าบรรจุห่อ 2,400 เม็ด โทรศัพท์มือถือ 1 เครื่อง ซุกอยู่ในกระเป๋าเป้สะพายสีดำ ขณะนำยาบ้าดังกล่าวส่งให้แก่ลูกค้ากลางซอยวัดสวนส้ม ต.บางด้วน อ.เมืองฯ จ.สมุทรปราการ สอบสวนให้การว่าถือเป้ซุกยาบ้าขึ้นเครื่องบินที่สนามบินนานาชาติแม่ฟ้าหลวง จ.เชียงราย เดินทางด้วยเที่ยวบิน ทีจี 135 ชั้นเฟิสต์คลาส สายการบินไทย ผ่านด่านตรวจโดยไม่มีการตรวจค้นแต่อย่างใด แล้วลงเครื่องที่สนามบินสุวรรณภูมิ เดินออกจากสนามบินไปขึ้นรถแท็กซี่เพื่อไปส่งยาบ้า แต่ถูกจับเสียก่อน

พ.ต.ท.รักศักดิ์ เมฆจินดา สวป.สภ.เมืองสมุทรปราการ กล่าวว่า นายนายจิรพันธ์ให้การซัดทอดว่านายชัยรัชต์ หรือรุ่ง ที่มีการทำธุรกิจรับเหมาก่อสร้างบังหน้า ให้ตนไปรับยาบ้าจาก จ.เชียงราย ก่อนขึ้นเครื่องบินไปส่งลูกค้า จึงรวบรวมข้อมูลพยานหลักฐานก่อนขออนุมัติหมายจับและหมายตรวจค้น จุดแรกเข้าค้นบ้านพัก ซึ่งเปิดเป็นบริษัท ทะเลทอง จำกัด ทำธุรกิจรับเหมางานก่อสร้าง จุดที่สองเข้าจับกุมตัวนายชัยรัชต์ เพราะทราบว่าต้องอยู่คุมคนงานภายในบริเวณก่อสร้างดังกล่าว แต่ไม่พบตัวทั้งสองที่ เชื่อว่าไหวตัวและหลบหนีไปก่อนหน้า ทั้งนี้ ได้ดำเนินการยึดทรัพย์ตาม พ.ร.บ.ยาเสพติด ประ กอบไปด้วย รถกระบะ เชฟโรเลต โคโลราโด ทะเบียน บต 5458 สุโขทัย, รถกระบะ อีซูซุ ดีแมคซ์ ทะเบียน ถศ 3423 กทม., รถบรรทุก 6 ล้อ มิตซูบิชิ ทะเบียน 81-3241 สุโขทัย, รถบรรทุก 10 ล้อ ทะเบียน 81-3954 สุโขทัย, รถบรรทุก 6 ล้อ ฮีโน่ ทะเบียน 81-4794 สุโขทัย และรถบรรทุก นิสสัน ทะเบียน 81-2986 สุโขทัย บ้านพักหลังดังกล่าว ทองรูปพรรณกว่า 10 บาท รวมมูลค่ากว่า 8 ล้านบาท

วันเดียวกัน ที่กองบัญชาการตำรวจภูธรภาค 5 พล.ต.ท.สุเทพ เดชรักษา ผู้บัญชาการตำรวจภูธรภาค 5 เป็นประธานแถลงข่าวจับกุมผู้ต้องหาคดีลักลอบขนส่งยาเสพติดในพื้นที่ จ.เชียงราย ซึ่งเป็นเครือข่ายที่รับคำสั่งจากผู้ต้องหาในเรือนจำจังหวัดเชียงราย โดยเจ้าหน้าที่ได้จับ กุมนายเอกพล เพ็ชรัตน์ อายุ 30 ปี, นางสาวชลทิชา เขียงแท้ อายุ 38 ปี, นายวิทูร อินทรคำ อายุ 19 ปี, นางสาวธนัชชา อินทรคำ อายุ 25 ปี และนายศักดิ์รพี ร่มโพธิ์ศรีทอง อายุ 18 ปี พร้อมยึดยาบ้าจำนวน 56,000 เม็ด และยาไอซ์อีก 1 กิโลกรัม ภายหลังจากสืบทราบว่าผู้ต้องหากลุ่มดังกล่าวจะขนยาเสพติดทั้งหมดเพื่อนำไปส่งมอบในพื้นที่ อ.แม่จัน จ.เชียงราย

ทั้งนี้ ผู้ต้องหาคือนายเอกพล น.ส.ชลทิ ชา และนายศักดิ์รพี ได้นัดหมายกับสายลับเพื่อส่งมอบยาเสพติดที่โรงแรมเฮือนเหนือ อ.แม่จัน จ.เชียงราย ก่อนจะเดินทางต่อไปตามเส้นทางสายเชียงราย-แม่สาย และถูกเจ้าหน้าที่ซึ่งสะกดรอยติดตามแสดงตัวเข้าจับกุม สอบสวนผู้ต้องหาให้การว่าได้รับคำสั่งจากนักโทษอยู่ในเรือนจำจังหวัดเชียงรายให้นำยาเสพติดดังกล่าวไปส่งให้สายลับซึ่งจะเป็นผู้นำยาเสพติดดังกล่าวไปส่งต่อ

ขณะเดียวกัน ในระหว่างการจับกุม ผู้สั่งการได้โทรศัพท์ติดต่อมายังสายลับให้ทำการจัดส่งยาเสพติดให้นายวิทูรที่บริเวณทางแยกแม่สรวย เจ้าหน้าที่ตำรวจจึงได้วางแผนขยายผลและทำการจับกุมนายวิทูรและนางสาวธนัชชาในระหว่างรับมอบยาเสพติด ควบคุมตัวผู้ต้องหาทั้งหมดส่งพนักงานสอบสวน สภ.แม่จันเพื่อดำเนินคดีต่อไป

ด้านนายวิชัย ไชยมงคล ผู้อำนวยการ ป.ป.ส.ภาค 5 กล่าวว่า ในขณะนี้ยาบ้าที่จำหน่ายกันในกรุงเทพมหานครราคาเพิ่มขึ้นเป็นเม็ดละ 300 บาท ส่วนยาไอซ์กิโลกรัมละ 1,200,000 บาท ซึ่งราคาที่เพิ่มสูงขึ้นเป็นผลมาจากการขาด แคลนยาเสพติดในท้องตลาด ในขณะที่ความต้อง การยังคงสูง.
